2)The syntactic element 'like' plays a double role of a preposition as well as an adjective. Since it is a preposition it can have a nominal object in the form of words, phrases and clauses. In brief the 'like' element has the long object:{{it's pitch-black all the time and we all run around with flashlights}} In other words, the objects of the preposition like are not one clause only but includes all two clauses.


3)The sentence at issue can be rewritten as follows: It's not like it's pitch-black all the time and we all run with flashlights.=>It's not so dark all the time that we do not all run around with flashlights.=>The street is not so dark all the time that we do not run around with flashlights.=>I am not talking to you to the effect that the street is so dark that we all run around with flashlights.=>The street is not so dark all the time that we can run around without the aid of flashlights.
